OCEANSIDE, CA - 12-25-07 (Rick Shaw) - San Diego Sheriff Officials state that an SUV was hit by an Amtrak train at a train crossing when the driver of a 1999 Chevy Blazer tried to out-run the train. The train collided with the SUV, killing the passenger at the railroad crossing in Oceanside near Camp Pendleton.

The SUV driver was hospitalized with catastrophic injuries such as an injury to his head. The passenger, an active duty U.S. Marine died from his wounds.

It happened in the evening, on 12-24-07. The passenger train was the Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner traveling north to LA, California. The U.S. Marine suffered a wrongful death in the California train versus car collision

Initial reports revealed that the passenger vehicle was accelerated forward on the train tracks at least three hundred feet. Reliable sources assert that it is possible the SUV did not even have its lights on at the time of impact.
