PHOENIX (LAWFUEL) – The United States has reached a settlement with Mark C. Goldberg, M.D., a cardiologist practicing in Tucson, Ariz. The U.S. alleged that from January to October 2007, Dr. Goldberg submitted claims for payment to the Medicare Program in violation of the physician self-referral laws, commonly referred to as the “Stark Law.” This resulted in false claims for payment to Medicare. Dr. Goldberg agreed to pay $135,000 to settle the matter.
The investigation leading to the settlement was conducted by Christina K. McGarvey, from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General and Robert K. Lu, Assistant U.S. Attorney, District of Arizona, Phoenix.
