14 January 2005 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary has appointed Antonio Creus as partner and head
of its Competition and Regulatory group in Madrid. Widely recognized as a
leading expert in EU competition law and regulatory matters, he will be
instrumental in the firm’s plan to build a leading competition practice in
Spain.

Antonio, who joins from Spanish law firm Cuatrecasas, will work closely with
Gerard Perez Olmo, senior associate in DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary’s Spanish
competition group. He will also collaborate with Neil Gerrard, the firm’s
joint global head of Legislative and Regulatory, and with other partners
across Europe, to develop a truly pan-European competition and regulatory
capability.

Antonio, who spent more than 16 years at Cuartrecasas, will bring a unique
set of skills, experience and qualifications to the Spanish practice. He was
responsible for setting up Cuartrecasas’ Brussels office in 1987 and
subsequently for successfully building up the firm’s regulatory and
anti-trust practice in Spain. Antonio is also an experienced and
multi-lingual EU litigator, having appeared before the European Court of
Justice on more than 35 appeals including a number of high-profile cases for
both local and international clients.

Antonio Creus commented on his appointment:
“I was very impressed by DLA’s rapid and focused growth over the last few
years and the vision, values and people that make up the firm. Now as DLA
Piper Rudnick Gray Cary, the firm is really in a unique position to offer a
first-class service to clients around the world. I look forward to
contributing to growing our competition practice both in Spain and across
Europe.”

Kenneth Bonavia, managing partner of the Spanish practice of DLA Piper
Rudnick Gray Cary, added, “Antonio is an extremely experienced and respected
lawyer within the European as well as Spanish market and I am delighted that
he chose DLA over other offers. There is a real market demand for a
genuinely pan-European competition and regulatory practice and Antonio will
play a key role in helping us achieve this. He will also contribute
positively to general growth and development of the Madrid office.”

Antonio has written regularly for the Spanish and international press on
competition matters and is also a professor on competition law at Carlos III
University of Madrid.
