Firm Lawyers Recognized for Legal Excellence

BALTIMORE September 5, 2006 LAWFUEL – Law Firm News – Selections for the 2007 edition of “The Best Lawyers in America” have just been announced. Ober|Kaler lawyers once again dominate the Maryland section in the areas of health care, construction, and maritime law. The publication is considered the “gold standard of reliability and integrity in lawyer ratings.”

“Best Lawyers is a well regarded publication and we are pleased with its recognition of our attorneys,” commented James E. Edwards, Jr. a member of Ober|Kaler’s Management Committee. “Since 1989, a core group of our attorneys has been recognized for their outstanding reputation in the areas of health care, maritime, and trusts and estates. It is gratifying to see that the fine reputation of some of our other outstanding attorneys is also recognized in the Best Lawyers 2007 edition. This year, we are pleased to see twenty Ober|Kaler attorneys identified, spanning fifteen different practice areas.”

Again this year, Ober|Kaler’s health law attorneys lead the Health Care section with more attorneys listed than any other Maryland firm. Recognized for their depth of experience and knowledge in the area are Health Law department chair Sanford V. Teplitzky, Leonard C. Homer, Howard L. Sollins, all of whom have appeared in “Best Lawyers” for more than fourteen consecutive years, and S. Craig Holden. All are resident in the firm’s Baltimore headquarters. Also selected for their third consecutive year are Washington, DC Health Law attorneys Thomas K. Hyatt, Patrick K. O’Hare, and Martha P. Rogers, who was also selected for her work in Criminal Defense. John J. Miles was selected for his outstanding reputation as an Antitrust lawyer focusing on the health care sector.

Selected for their outstanding legal skill and leading the Maryland Construction category are Joseph C. Kovars and John A. Wolf. Mr. Wolf spans the additional categories Alternative Dispute Resolution and Commercial Litigation.

Leading the Maryland Maritime Law section and recognized for their significant contribution to the specialty area are M. Hamilton Whitman, Jr. and Donald C. Greenman. Both attorneys have appeared in each edition of “Best Lawyers” since 1989. Admiralty practice chair Geoffrey S. Tobias appears in the 2007 edition of “Best Lawyers” for his exceptional work in both Maritime and Immigration Law.

Ober|Kaler Trusts & Estates department chair Donald R. Mering appears in the 2007 issue, as he has in each edition of “Best Lawyers” since 1993.

E. Scott Johnson, chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property Group, is again recognized for his work in Entertainment Law and Intellectual Property. Intellectual Property Group member and member of the Uniform Commercial Code Permanent Editorial Board, Carlyle C. Ring, Jr., is once more noted for his work in Information Technology Law. Both attorneys appeared in last two issues of “Best Lawyers.”

Frank C. Bonaventure was selected for the third consecutive year for his work in Banking Law – one of the newer specialty practices featured in “Best Lawyers. ”

Lending & Leasing practice chair Alan J. Mogol joins the 2007 “Best Lawyers” list for his exceptional work in Equipment Finance Law.

Employment & Labor practice chair Pamela J. White has again been selected for her work in Labor & Employment Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution.

Fewer than 3% of all attorneys in the country are selected for inclusion in “The Best Lawyers in America.” Inclusion in the publication is the culmination of an extensive nationwide survey based on more than 1.5 million peer-review evaluations. The publication is regarded as the “definitive guide to legal excellence in the United States.”
