LawFuel.com – Sports Law News – Michigan is looking to decriminalize the betting on an NCAA tournament office pool, according to reports.

Kim Meltzer, a Republican from Macomb County’s Clinton Township plans to introduce legislation that would decriminalize participation in an NCAA tournament office pool, which is currently illegal in Michigan law where the placement of small bets in a tournament pool could result in a $1000 fine.

Rusty Hills, a spokesman for Attorney General Mike Cox, said to AP that typical NCAA office pools would be “way, way down the list” of the office’s priorities.

Meltzer’s bill could help more clearly define what should draw authorities’ scrutiny and what shouldn’t.
