Thursday 22 March 2007 LAWFUEL – Australia Business – The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has banned Mr Callen Jeffrey Soffer, a former employee of the Goldman Sachs JB Were Group, from providing financial services for a period of five years. Mr Soffer, of Caulfield South, Victoria, was banned following concerns by ASIC that he posed a risk to the public and would not act with honesty and integrity. On 3 February 2006, Mr Soffer was convicted of an offence committed during his employment with the Goldman Sachs JB Were Group. This offence related to obtaining property by deception in October 2004 and involved an unauthorised transaction of $100,000.
As a result, Mr Soffer was ordered to serve a community based order for a period of two years. Goldman Sachs JBWere notified ASIC of the issues and cooperated fully with ASIC’s inquiries.
