(April 2, 2007, Wilmington, DE) – LAWFUEL – Law Firm News – Reed Smith LLP, one of the world’s 15 largest law firms, today announced that Richard A. Robinson will join its Wilmington office as a partner in its Commercial Restructuring and Bankruptcy Group, effective April 1. A former partner in the Orlando office of Baker Hostetler, Mr. Robinson practices in the areas of bankruptcy and restructuring.
“I have known Rick for 13 years. We worked together early in our careers as associates, and during our careers we have worked together on several bankruptcy cases in Wilmington and Florida,” said Kurt F. Gwynne, managing partner of the Wilmington office. “Rick has a top-notch national bankruptcy practice and we are really looking forward to having him at Reed Smith.”
In addition to extensive experience in bankruptcy matters, Mr. Robinson has handled numerous other insolvency proceedings, restructurings, workouts, general corporate matters and complex commercial transactions. His responsibilities have included counseling clients in numerous industry sectors and niches, including healthcare, real estate development, food, music, gaming, construction, heavy manufacturing and distribution and representing them in bankruptcy courts throughout the U.S.
“Rick’s arrival is well-timed to precede the expected upswing in bankruptcy filings nationwide, many of which are filed in Delaware,” said Peter Clark, firmwide head of Reed Smith’s Commercial Restructuring & Bankruptcy Group. “Rick brings additional firepower to our Wilmington office, which we anticipate will be key as the economy cycles through the predicted downturn. With a nationally focused practice and more than a decade of experience, he will be a definite asset to this office and to our firmwide bankruptcy and restructuring group.”
Mr. Robinson’s experience includes representation of companies as chapter 11 debtors-in-possession; property purchasers in bankruptcy cases and other insolvency situations; borrowers and lenders in out-of-court workouts and related restructurings; official committees in chapter 11 cases; secured creditors and lessors in bankruptcy cases; turnaround and consulting firms in bankruptcy and insolvency matters; contractors in bankruptcy and insolvency related matters; and trustees and receivers. His responsibilities have extended to providing clients with insolvency advice in connection with structuring complex transactions, and providing bankruptcy related opinions in connection with transactions involving structured financing and securitizations.
“I believe the experience I have and my relationships in the banking industry and with turnaround management firms will bolster Reed Smith’s bankruptcy presence in Wilmington,” said Mr. Robinson. “My practice fits in well with the international scope of Reed Smith’s bankruptcy practice and will allow me to expand my representation of troubled companies, lenders and creditors committees.”
A 1990 graduate of Vanderbilt University Law School, Mr. Robinson publishes and speaks frequently on topics of interest and importance to bankruptcy and insolvency practitioners. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the American Bankruptcy Institute, and the Turnaround Management Association.
Reed Smith’s Commercial Restructuring & Bankruptcy Group now has more than 50 professionals in 17 offices in the United States and Europe, with its offices in New York City and Wilmington, Delaware positioned at the doorstep of the two most active bankruptcy courts in the United States.
