Washington, D.C., July 16, 2007 – LAWFUEL – The Legal Newswire – Dewey Ballantine LLP, a leading international law firm, announced today that Jeffrey Ira Frey has joined the firm’s Washington, D.C. office as counsel in the Intellectual Property Litigation Group. Mr. Frey, who holds a Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, joins Dewey Ballantine from the Washington, D.C. office of Robins Kaplan Miller & Ciresi, LLP.
Mr. Frey has broad and diverse experience focusing on Intellectual Property Litigation. Prior to joining Robins Kaplan, he served for two years as a Law Clerk in the chambers of The Honorable Randall R. Rader of the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and four years in IP litigation as a partner at Howrey LLP. Mr. Frey has served as an expert witness in several patent litigation matters, patent infringement lawsuits and appeals, argued claim interpretation positions and summary judgment motions in District Court, participated in the preparation of expert witnesses, and has participated in several appeals before the Federal Circuit.
Additionally, Mr. Frey taught and conducted research in the design, fabrication and operation of high-speed semiconductor devices and integrated circuits at Cornell University and the University of Maryland. He also has worked in the semiconductor and microwave industries, in government, and at universities in Germany and Japan. He was involved in questions of international research and development competition and cooperation in the Defense Sciences Board Study of National Security and Semiconductor Dependency, was a member of the Office of Science and Technology Policy study of U.S.-Japan semiconductor competition in 1987, and a member of the Office of Technology assessment Advisory Panel on the Commercialization of Superconductors.
Mr. Frey joins his former colleagues from Robins Kaplan, Washington D.C.-based IP litigation partners Dirk Thomas, Kenneth Freeling and Robert Auchter who joined Dewey Ballantine on June 25, 2007. The firm also announced on June 20, 2007 that Mr. Thomas would serve as Co-chair of the firmwide IP Litigation Group.
Mr. Frey graduated from Cornell University with a B.E.E. degree in Electrical Engineering. He obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley in Electrical Engineering. Mr. Frey received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. Mr. Frey is fluent in Japanese as a result of attending the FALCON Intensive Japanese Language Program at Cornell University and his subsequent involvement with the University of Tokyo as a Visiting Professor.
