LAWFUEL – The Legal Newswire – London, Sheffield – DLA Piper received an International Visual Communications Association (IVCA) Clarion Award in the Live Events category on Friday 28 September. The Awards, held at the BFI Southbank in London, recognise best practice in communicating the importance of CSR, sustainable development, social inclusion and ethical matters using a variety of media platforms. DLA Piper’s Safety, Health and Environment head, Teresa Hitchcock collected the award in recognition of the firm’s “Cooling the Planet” conference in Sheffield, which brought together over 1,000 business leaders in order to raise awareness about climate change.
“Cooling the Planet was a truly inspirational event through which DLA Piper was able to motivate and engage business leaders from around the world on the issue of climate change,” said Teresa Hitchcock. “The conference and the associated green events organised by Sheffield City Council demonstrate what can be achieved when businesses, large and small, join together. DLA Piper’s green conference, “Cooling the Planet”, was hosted by former US vice president, Al Gore on 7 February 2007 and featured a number of keynote speakers from the Government, including Housing Minister Yvette Cooper, Tom Riordan, Chief Executive of Yorkshire Forward and former Home Secretary David Blunkett. DLA Piper’s chairman, Senator George Mitchell and Teresa Hitchcock, the champion behind the conference, also spoke at the event.
Celebrity winners at the Clarion Awards included Moira Stuart, Kevin Spacey, Julie Christie and PD James and they all spoke about the importance of ethical communications. Other winners in the Live Events category included O2 and AVIVA.
