LAWFUEL – The Legal Newswire – A man who lives in the Miracle Mile section of Los Angeles has been sentenced to 40 months in federal prison after pleading to tax evasion for failing to report approximately $600,000 on his 2002 federal tax return.
Carl Orlando, 52, received the sentence on Monday afternoon from United States District Judge A. Howard Matz, who also imposed a $30,000 fine. The United States Sentencing Guidelines advised a sentence of 27 months to 33 months, but Judge Matz determined that Orlando deserved a 40-month sentence because he has a prior mail fraud conviction and because he used false identifications and several bank accounts to conceal his income from the Internal Revenue Service.
Orlando was initially scheduled to be sentenced on September 17, but he failed to appear and Judge Matz issued a bench warrant. Orlando was arrested on September 26 and appeared before Judge Matz on Monday.
This case was investigated by IRS-Criminal Investigation Division.
