LAWFUEL – The Legal Newswire – MICHAEL J. GARCIA, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced that JOHN McCALLUM, JR. was sentenced today to 20 years’ imprisonment for distributing crack cocaine, and conspiring to do so, in the Spring Valley area in 2004 and 2005. The sentence was imposed by United States
District Judge STEPHEN C. ROBINSON at the federal courthouse in
White Plains, New York.
The sentence followed a jury trial in September 2007 in
which McCALLUM was convicted of: 1) conspiring to distribute and
possess with intent to distribute more than 50 grams of crack
cocaine, from September 2004 through May 10, 2005; 2)
distributing and possessing with intent to distribute a quantity
of crack cocaine on April 15, 2005; and 3) distributing and

cocaine on May 10, 2005. McCALLUM was acquitted of a fourth
count, which accused him of distributing and possessing with
intent to distribute a quantity of crack cocaine on April 14,
2005.
Evidence presented at trial showed that McCALLUM and a
co-conspirator sold hundreds of grams of crack cocaine in various
locations in and around Spring Valley, New York, in 2004 and
2005. The conspiracy ended on May 10, 2005, when members of the
Ramapo Police Department the apartment searched the apartment
where McCALLUM and his co-conspirator were living and found there
almost 300 grams of crack cocaine. McCALLUM was a fugitive from
justice until he was apprehended by the United States Marshals
Service in Pottstown, Pennsylvania on December 22, 2005.
MR. GARCIA praised the outstanding efforts of the
Ramapo Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration
in the investigation of this case.
