Clifford Chance appoints Mark Currell as Managing Partner for Australia

Global law firm Clifford Chance has today named Mark Currell as the new Managing Partner of the firm’s Perth and Sydney office, effective 1 May 2025.

Mark succeeds Richard Gordon whose second term concludes in April 2025. Richard will continue to support the firm on regional strategic initiatives.

Mark, who leads the firm’s Corporate Practice in Australia, joined Clifford Chance as a partner in 2018 and has since played a pivotal role in establishing and building both the firm’s M&A team and our cross-practice, multijurisdictional specialist private capital team.

Richard Gordon, outgoing Australia Managing Partner said, “Mark’s collaborative leadership style and dedication to Clifford Chance make him well-positioned to guide the firm through its next phase of growth in Australia.”

“I’m excited about the firm’s future. As we adapt to the evolving needs of our clients, we’ll continue to innovate, expand our practice areas, and facilitate deeper connections with our global network.”

Mark Currell, Partner and incoming Australia Managing Partner commented, “Over the past 8 years, we have achieved remarkable growth in Australia; increasing our headcount to nearly 200 across Perth and Sydney, and establishing ourselves as a trusted advisor to market leading clients.”

“I look forward to taking on this role and working with our exceptional teams to drive the best outcomes for our clients and continued strategic growth across our core practice areas.”

Connie Heng, Regional Managing Partner for Asia Pacific added, “Richard has played a pivotal role as Managing Partner, taking our Australian practice from strength to strength. I look forward to benefiting from the valuable knowledge and insights of both Richard and Mark as we leverage opportunities in the current business environment and advance our strategic priorities.”
