Freshfields Law – Further consolidation in healthcare sector

LawFuel – UK Legal News – International law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer is advising Cinven and Spire Healthcare (formerly Bupa Hospitals) on the purchase of Classic Hospitals.

‘This acquisition shows that there is continued activity by private equity funds in the healthcare sector,’ said David Higgins, partner, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, who led on the transaction.

‘We are very pleased to be advising Cinven on this acquisition, particularly following the work we did with them in 2007 on its acquisitions of Partnerships in Care and Bupa in the UK, and USP Hospitales in Spain.’

The Freshfields team was led by corporate partner David Higgins and included finance partner Chris Davis, real estate partner Mark Wheelhouse, corporate senior associate Adrian Maguire, and associates Victoria Marland (corporate) and Sebastian FitzGerald (finance) all based in London.

Freshfields has advised on a number of other major deals in the health care sector in recent years, including Investor’s acquisition of Mölnlycke Healthcare Group and the sale of Kodak’s healthcare group, both in January 2007, and Allianz Capital Partners’ sale of Four Seasons Health Care in September 2006.
