DENVER – LAWFUEL – US Legal Announcements – United States Attorney Troy Eid announced today that he has appointed Assistant U.S. Attorney Greg Rhodes to serve as deputy chief of the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF). Rhodes has been with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for 12 years and has expertise in complex drug investigations and prosecutions.
As Deputy Chief, Rhodes will assist Section Chief Stephanie Podolak with the day to day supervision of 10 OCDETF prosecutors, as well as an OCDETF Paralegal and an OCDETF Financial Analyst, who are working on over 50 complex drug cases per year. He will also help the Section Chief in representing the office in dealing with the many drug task forces in the state. In 2007, the OCDETF section was responsible for overseeing more than 100 wiretaps, the arrest of more than 150 defendants, and the seizure of more than $3 million.
Rhodes received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. He received a Master of Education from Frostburg State University, in Frostburg, Maryland, and his law degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.
Prior to becoming a prosecutor, Rhodes worked as a teacher in Chicago, Illinois, an administrator at Creighton University, and an instructor in the Black Studies Department at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He was also Director of the Mental Health Partial Care Programs in Nebraska as well as a prosecutor in the Douglas County Attorney’s Office in Omaha, Nebraska and a Senior Litigation Attorney at US West Communications. Rhodes joined the US Attorney’s Office in Nebraska as an Assistant US Attorney in 1994. He joined the Colorado U.S. Attorney’s Office in 1996. In addition to his responsibilities at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, he also teaches at the University of Denver.
Rhodes was one of two prosecutors that dismantled a RICO organization doing business at the Alpine Rose Motel in Adams County. The three lead defendants in that case received multiple life sentences in federal prison, a sentence that is rare to obtain.
