Los Angeles, California – This morning, an Altadena man was sentenced to spend one year and one day in federal prison after previously pleading guilty last year to federal income tax and firearms charges.
Guy Richard Moore, of Altadena, was sentenced by United States District Judge George H. Wu to spend one year and one day in federal prison and was ordered to pay restitution of $400,000 to the Internal Revenue Service and a fine of $6,000. After his release from prison, Judge Wu ordered Moore to spend 3 years on supervised release.
According to court papers, the federal income tax charges stem form the fact that when Moore filed his 2001 Form 1040, U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, with the IRS, he failed to report over $543,000 in taxable income he received from a family investment. In his plea agreement, Moore admitted that he knew he was required to report the income he had received on his tax return and to pay the tax due of approximately $217,000 to the IRS.
Including the amount set forth in the plea agreement for the 2001 tax year, court papers detail that Moore agreed that he owed the IRS a total of approximately $400,000 in tax for the years 1999 through 2002. The tax owed by Moore was based upon over $1.2 million in income Moore failed to report to the IRS on his 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002 tax returns.
In addition to the tax charge, Moore pleaded guilty to being a previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Moore admitted that he was previously convicted of possession of a controlled substance and that he knowingly possessed multiple firearms at his residence in Altadena subsequent his conviction. According to court papers, Moore had approximately 68 firearms and over 11,000 rounds of ammunition in his possession.
Judge Wu ordered Moore to begin serving his sentence on August 31, 2009.
