Gardere’s Ortiz-Prieto Honored by Business Journal

DALLAS (LAWFUEL) – Attorney Alejandro Ortiz-Prieto, a partner in the Dallas office of Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP, was selected by the Dallas Business Journal as one of its 2009 Minority Business Leaders.

The award recognizes the area’s top minority business owners, minority corporate executives, and advocates of minority businesses. Mr. Ortiz-Prieto was selected as one of 15 Dallas-area business people to receive the Minority Corporate Executive Award.

“There is no one more deserving of this recognition than Alejandro,” says Gardere managing partner Steve Good. “Gardere is committed to increasing diversity within our firm, and leaders like Alejandro are not only integral to that plan and serve as great role models for others.”

For his part, Mr. Ortiz-Prieto says the DBJ award points out the importance of racial and ethnic minorities in the Dallas-area’s economy.

“The list of recipients of this award reads like a Who’s Who of Business People in Dallas,” he says. “I’m honored that the Dallas Business Journal selected me for this award, and I’m humbled to be in such good company.”

Mr. Ortiz-Prieto and the other winners will be honored at a March 26 luncheon at the Westin Galleria.

Mr. Ortiz-Prieto’s practice focuses on the corporate and tax planning of international transactions and corporate finance, including international acquisitions of all types of businesses, procurement of government contracts in Mexico and Latin America and counsel on private securities offerings, commercial loan transactions, privately placed investments, debt restructurings and bond transactions.

In addition to his legal work, Mr. Ortiz-Prieto is a member of the International Business Advisory Council of the Greater Dallas Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the NAFTA Task Force.
