Ober/Kaler’s Paul S. Weidenfeld Selected for “Outstanding Healthcare Litigator–2008” by Nightingale’s

WASHINGTON, DC – (LAWFUEL) April 1, 2009 Paul S. Weidenfeld, a principal in the law firm of Ober|Kaler, has been chosen by Nightingale’s Healthcare News for its “Outstanding Healthcare Litigator – 2008” ranking. Mr. Weidenfeld is one of only ten lawyers from across the country selected for inclusion on the list, which appeared in the January 2009 issue of Nightingale’s.

Mr. Weidenfeld represents health care providers and individuals in complex litigation that typically involve allegations of fraud. In particular, the Nightingale’s ranking cites Mr. Weidenfeld’s counsel to various providers and facilities in alleged quality of care, failure of care, performance of unnecessary procedures, and pricing violation investigations.

Prior to joining Ober|Kaler, Mr. Weidenfeld served in the Department of Justice for twelve years, most recently as the Health Care Fraud Coordinator for the U.S. Attorneys Offices. In this position, he worked on matters involving health care law enforcement and served as the liaison for the U.S. Attorneys Offices and their assistants to other stakeholders in health care such as CMS, Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General and the State Medicaid Fraud Control Units. As the Health Care Fraud Coordinator, he also assisted Assistant U.S. Attorneys (AUSAs) throughout the country in health care fraud prosecutions. Prior to serving as Health Care Fraud Coordinator, Mr. Weidenfeld was an AUSA in the Eastern District of Louisiana where he prosecuted fraud under the Civil False Claims Act, and where he also frequently participated in criminal health care prosecutions.

Mr. Weidenfeld is a graduate of Loyola University of New Orleans (J.D., 1980) and
Tulane University (B.A., 1974). He is a resident of Alexandria, Virgina.
