NEW YORK CITY, April 8, 2009 — Winston & Strawn LLP announced today that Michael Elkin has been named managing partner of the firm’s New York office. He will oversee the nearly 200 lawyers based in New York for the firm. Simultaneously, Elkin was elected to firm’s executive committee.
A widely recognized litigator and adviser, Elkin has extensive experience handling and taking a broad range of high profile matters to trial, with particular emphasis on sophisticated legal issues involving emerging technologies. He came to Winston & Strawn three years ago from Thelen, where he served in several leadership positions, including vice chairman for that firm, and managing partner of its litigation practice.
Elkin focuses on media, entertainment and intellectual property matters and has served as lead trial counsel in numerous disputes involving technologies that shape the boundaries of IP law. Elkin has been selected as one of Hollywood Reporter, Esq.’s Top 100 Power Lawyers for litigation for the past two years, and has been named in the Super Lawyers peer review directory for the past three years.
Elkin also serves in leadership positions in several organizations. He is vice-president and secretary of the French American Chamber of Commerce. He has a juris doctor from Brooklyn Law School and master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Rutgers University.
