WASHINGTON, DC, April 21, 2009 — The American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI) has named John McMickle co-chair of its legislative committee. McMickle is a partner in Winston & Strawn LLP’s Washington, D.C. office and a member of the firm’s federal governmental relations and regulatory affairs practice group.
The ABI is the largest multi-disciplinary, non-partisan organization dedicated to research and education on matters related to insolvency. The legislative committee is charged with analyzing proposed and pending bills of interest to the organization’s members and monitoring relevant congressional action. The ABI was founded in 1982 to provide Congress and the public with unbiased analysis of bankruptcy issues and has more than 11,500 members.
McMickle represents financial services companies and a broad range of other clients before Congress and administrative agencies. Prior to joining the firm, McMickle served for six years as counsel to Sen. Charles Grassley, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Administrative Oversight and the Courts of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which has jurisdiction over federal bankruptcy policy. He was the primary staff draftsman for the Senate on the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005.
