Hong Kong – LawFuel.com – Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP (Orrick) today announced that Allen Shyu has joined the firm as a partner in Orrick’s China Corporate Group, resident in Hong Kong. Mr. Shyu’s practice will continue to focus on international securities offerings, including debt and equity securities, U.S. and Hong Kong initial public offerings, private placements and cross-border M&A transactions.
With over a decade of experience in representing issuers from Taiwan, China and Hong Kong in their U.S. and global offerings, as well as investment banks, securities houses, and venture capital and private equity firms, Mr. Shyu will work closely with Orrick’s sizeable team of U.S., Hong Kong and English law qualified corporate and capital markets lawyers in Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai.

Mr. Shyu’s appointment comes at a time of significant expansion for the firm in China. In the last few months, Orrick has announced Andrew Dale’s elevation to partnership in Orrick’s dispute resolution practice in Hong Kong in February; Michael Haworth, who relocated to Orrick’s Hong Kong office to lead the firm’s regional real estate practice in January; Niping Wu from Cleary Gottlieb, who joined Orrick’s Beijing office in December; Phoebus Chu from Paul Hastings, who joined Orrick in Hong Kong and Beijing in November; and Thomas Tobiason who relocated from Silicon Valley to Shanghai in October.
Mr. Shyu received his B.A. in Political Science from National Taiwan University, his J.D. from the University of Detroit Mercy, Michigan and his M.A. in Political Science from University of Detroit Mercy, Michigan. He is qualified to practice in the U.S. and has been a member of the Illinois and Indiana state bar associations since 1997. Mr. Shyu began his legal career as an associate with leading Taiwanese law firm Lee & Li where he was a part of the Financing & Capital Markets department. He moved to Baker & McKenzie in Hong Kong in 2000 where he became a partner in 2006, and was a member of the firm’s U.S. Securities Group covering the Asia Pacific region.
