Clyde & Co adds contentious regulatory and corporate compliance partner to Middle East practice
Dubai, 4 October 2010 – Law firm Clyde & Co LLP is pleased to announce the addition of Rebecca Kelly as a partner. Rebecca’s principal areas of practice are regulatory compliance and dispute resolution; her arrival further enhances Clyde & Co’s already significant and fast developing Middle East regulatory and compliance offering.
Rebecca arrives from law firm DLA Piper, where she held the role of Head of the UAE Law Regulatory Practice in the Middle East, specialising in UAE legal issues facing local and international private and public sector clients. Rebecca has been working in the Middle East since 2005.
Based from Clyde & Co’s Dubai office, Rebecca will be working in conjunction with a range of the firm’s sector groups in further developing the firm’s regional regulatory and compliance offering to a diverse corporate and government client-base.
Rebecca specialises in advising on strategy for clients involved in, or potentially exposed to litigation in the UAE, and has successfully defended proceedings brought by government entities against clients operating in the region. Her broader dispute resolution experience covers the full spectrum of contentious matters including pure contractual claims, termination of agency relationships, employee and shareholder disputes. Another key area of Rebecca’s practice has involved developing UAE regulatory compliance manuals for corporate entities covering a range of legal obligations and commercial applications, and specifically addressing anti corruption, corporate governance confidentiality, document retention, and employee and employer obligations in the UAE.
Commenting on her move to Clyde & Co, Rebecca said “The move was a natural choice, based on the strength of the firm and the depth of the practice that already exists. Clyde & Co has been in the region for a long time, is demonstrably committed and has a very good reputation in the market. By moving to Clyde & Co, clients have the benefit of a practice that is not only well resourced, but is also sharply focused on pre-empting their corporate needs.”
Welcoming Rebecca to the firm, Brian Nash, Clyde & Co Middle East Board member and Head of Clyde & Co’s Dispute Resolution Department, said “Rebecca’s unique skill set is of increasing importance to clients within the GCC region as the region becomes subject to an ever more extensive and complex regulatory framework. This is an area in which Clyde & Co have already built a solid non contentious offering and Rebecca’s arrival allows us to now offer a complete solution to clients.”
Clyde & Co has four Middle Eastern offices, which operate as a single unit; Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the UAE, Doha in Qatar, and an associated office in Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. The firm formalised its presence in the Middle East in 1989 after many years of client activity in the region. Today the firm is recognised by the market as one of the major international law firms in the Middle East.
Internationally, Clyde & Co is particularly well known for expertise in relation to international trade, emerging markets and in relation to high profile and/or difficult dispute resolution work.
