BALTIMORE, MD – March 28, 2012 The law firm Ober|Kaler announced today that Wendi Peters, a paralegal in the firm’s Litigation and Creditors’ Rights Groups, has been named to “Maryland’s Top 100 Women” by The Daily Record. Ms. Peters and her co-honorees will be recognized at a special ceremony on May 7, 2012 at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall.
“Maryland’s Top 100 Women” was established by The Daily Record to recognize high-achieving women throughout the state who are making an impact through their leadership, community service and mentoring. Since its inception in 1996, there have been more than 1000 honorees.
A hardworking and dedicated community leader, Ms. Peters has held numerous government and community service posts. Most notably, she serves on the Town Council for the Town of Mt. Airy, an elected position she has held since 2004. In 2008, she became the first woman to be re-elected to the Council for a second term.
Her tenure has been marked by a focus on promoting economic development and conservative fiscal principles. Under her leadership, Mt. Airy implemented a curbside single stream recycling program in 2008 that has resulted in significant savings to the town. Further, she initiated a detailed Work Plan adopted by the Economic Development Commission working to retain, expand and recruit business investment within the town.
Ms. Peters is former Vice Chairman of the Mt. Airy Planning and Zoning Commission and has also served on the town’s Board of Zoning Appeals and Recycling Commission. She is a former board member of the Mt. Airy Main Street Association.
Educational issues are of particular importance to Ms. Peters. She has volunteered as a mentor to elementary, middle and high school students in Baltimore City and Mt. Airy. Most recently, she worked with first-graders at the Patterson Park Charter School in Baltimore, and she has also served on Community Law in Action’s mentoring program and the Mentoring Connections Team at Mt. Airy Middle School. In 2011 she was awarded the Extraordinary Achievement Award by the Maryland Recyclers Network for collaborating with local elementary school students and producing a public service video promoting recycling in Mount Airy.
Ms. Peters has been a paralegal with Ober|Kaler since 1986. She is a member of the Maryland Association of Paralegals and the National Federation of Paralegal Associations, as well as an associate member of the Maryland State Bar Association. She resides in Mt. Airy with her husband, Gary and her son, Zach, who is a freshman at Loyola University Maryland, Ms. Peters’ alma mater. Earlier this month she followed her father and grandfather as an inductee into the Mount Airy Historical Society’s Hall of Fame, which recognizes those who have worked to make the community a better place to live.
This is the second year Ms. Peters has been named to the “Top 100 Women.” She is the second Ober|Kaler professional to receive this honor. Pamela J. White, formerly head of the firm’s Employment Group and now a Baltimore City Circuit Court judge, was selected in 2000 and again in 2004.
