The publication states that this recognition is given to “lawyers who have earned the respect of their peers and have a distinguished reputation working with depository and non-depository mortgage lenders.” Mortgage Compliance Magazine used a series of criteria in identifying individuals who were selected as top compliance lawyers, including seeking guidance and input from a number of mortgage compliance professionals.
Richards also authored an article for the September issue of Mortgage Compliance Magazine, titled “Navigating Social Media and Advertising Challenges.” In the article, Richards discusses how financial institutions must be mindful that electronic advertising does not alleviate compliance obligations that must be met with any advertising program. He also points out that the advances associated with social media present issues that were not contemplated when advertising laws and regulations were originally drafted.
Richards concentrates his practice on advising members of the financial services industry on state and federal regulatory matters. The focus of his client service efforts include state compliance and licensing issues pertaining to mortgage lenders, brokers, servicers and their employees, as well as compliance and licensing matters pertaining to financial services and real estate settlement service providers.
