COLUMBUS–LAWFUEL – Labor & Employment Law News – Ulmer & Berne LLP, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2008, announced today the addition of Adam C. Miller to its Columbus office.
As a member of the Employment & Labor Group at Ulmer & Berne, Mr. Miller focuses on representing governmental entities, particularly school districts. Mr. Miller recently served as interim General Counsel to the Akron Public Schools. Experienced in the legal matters facing urban school districts, Mr. Miller also represents local, county and exempted village school districts across Ohio. He has experience with many types of governmental entities including port authorities, municipal corporations, and economic development districts. Mr. Miller has federal labor law experience including EEO and MSPB hearings and related matters under the jurisdiction of the FLRA.
A former public school teacher, coach, and superintendent, Mr. Miller’s practice covers a broad spectrum of education related law. Bringing a unique education background to legal matters, he helps public school districts address legal matters relating to state funding, school facilities, state and federal grant applications and grant management, medical and prescription drug insurance contracts; school finance; tuition and residency; student transportation and student discipline; administrative and employee contracts; litigation defense; public employee discipline and termination; public employee labor negotiations and arbitrations; governmental relations; creation of economic development districts; public employee benefits; and risk management. He is particularly versed in the legal aspects of charter and alternative schools and how these schools impact traditional public school district operations. He serves as Chair of the Ohio State Bar Association’s Education Law Committee. Mr. Miller previously was with the law firm Roetzel & Andress, and Deputy Director of Legal Services for the Ohio School Boards Association. Mr. Miller has written many articles on education law topics and is a frequent speaker for the Buckeye Association of School Administrators (BASA) and the Ohio Association of School Business Officials (OASBO).
Mr. Miller’s practice also includes military law and international law. He presently holds the rank of Major in the Army Reserve. MAJ Miller is a U.S. Army Reserve Judge Advocate (JAG) and Civil Affairs Officer, a veteran of active military service as a Company and Battalion Commander (FWD) in Bagram, Afghanistan. MAJ Miller is the current Command Judge Advocate for the 643rd Regional Support Group in Whitehall, Ohio. He is a past recipient of Business First’s Forty Under 40 Award.
