MEMPHIS, Tenn. – 11 May 2011 – The law firm of Adams and Reese teamed up with client, Medical Education Research Institute (MERI), to provide lunch today for 150 first responders in Memphis working the Emergency Operations Center at 2668 Avery Avenue, as they continue to patrol the city’s levees and control the rising water levels from the Mississippi River.
The Emergency Operations Center at 2668 Avery Avenue is staffed around the clock by the heads of several agencies and departments including city and county government leaders, volunteers, faith-based community shelters, firefighters, police, sheriffs, Emergency Medical Services personnel, United States Army Corp of Engineers, the National Weather Service, and University of Memphis flood predictors.
“Most of them have been working around the clock for some time now and that will continue until probably the end of May as the river continues to hover at near record levels,” said Jeffrey Smith, Partner in Charge of the Adams and Reese Memphis office. “They are located in a bunker near a school department and have little options or time for food and drink, so we wanted to do something for them for their service to us and the Memphis community.”
The project was coordinated by Adams and Reese Partner Joe Walker, in the firm’s Memphis office.
