(LAWFUEL) – Alabama’s Attorney General, Troy King, has appointed Adams and Reese Special Counsel David Whetstone as a special prosecutor for the State of Alabama on several matters involving ethics cases and other matters pending before circuit courts in Alabama where the local district attorney has a conflict.
Whetstone has recently served as Special Prosecutor for the Alabama Ethics Commission on corruptions charges affecting a public school. Whetstone has served as Special Prosecutor in Alabama for the past 30 years as well as being the District Attorney of Baldwin County. He has served at the pleasure of two chief justices, four governors and seven attorneys general.
Whetstone, who works out of the Adams and Reese Mobile office as the firm’s Special Counsel, is a member of the Governmental Relations Practice Team in the Special Business Services Practice Group. He served 22 years as District Attorney of Baldwin County where he gained extensive experience in representing the State of Alabama and other agencies.
Whetstone began his legal career as an Assistant Attorney General to former Attorney General Bill Baxley, followed by six years of service as the Executive Director of the Alabama District Attorneys Association, where he represented the interests of District Attorneys throughout the State and created the Office of Prosecution Services. During that time, he also served on several commissions including Alabama’s first Criminal Code Commission as well as the Judicial Commission that was responsible for re-vamping Alabama’s Judicial Article. From 1980-1984, Whetstone had a general private practice in Gulf Shores, AL, and became Municipal Judge, as well as serving as a Special Attorney General.
He is licensed to practice in all state courts in Alabama and is a member of the Alabama Condominium Law Revisions Committee.
