PHOENIX (LAWFUEL) – Roy Samuel Thomas, 21, of Chandler, Ariz. and a member of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Tribe, was sentenced here today to 56 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Paul G. Rosenblatt. Thomas pleaded guilty on November 6, 2008 to Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury.
On January 1, 2008, Thomas attended a party at a residence on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Reservation. During the party, Thomas exchanged words, then fought, with the 25-year-old victim. During the fight, Thomas stabbed the victim multiple times with a knife. The victim, who was unarmed, sustained serious bodily injury and was hospitalized but eventually recovered from his injuries.
The investigation in this case was conducted by the Salt River Police Department. The prosecution was handled by Thomas C. Simon, Assistant U.S. Attorney, District of Arizona, Phoenix.
