Arizona Man Sentenced for Bank Robbery

PHOENIX (LAWFUEL) – Richard Albert Burkall, 53, of Tonopah, Ariz., was sentenced here to 45 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge G. Murray Snow. Burkall pleaded guilty on September 22, 2008 to Bank Robbery.

On June 10, 2008, Burkall entered the Bank of America on North Dysart Road in Litchfield Park, Ariz., and presented the teller with a note which read, “This is a robbery.” Burkall then took $2900 from the teller and fled the bank. The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office later received an anonymous phone tip that Burkall was responsible for the robbery. When contacted by Sheriff’s Deputies at his home in Tonopah, Burkall admitted to the robbery.

The investigation in this case was conducted by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The prosecution was handled by Thomas C. Simon, Assistant U.S. Attorney, District of Arizona, Phoenix.
