PHOENIX (LAWFUEL) – Terrell “Teddy” Guerra Sr., 23 of Laveen, Ariz. was sentenced on Monday, September 8, 2008 to seven years in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Neil V. Wake. Guerra pleaded guilty on June 13, 2008 to Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.
At the time of the incident on October 31, 2007, Guerra became angry with his then 18-year-old girlfriend and began to beat her. She attempted to escape but he followed her, grabbed her by the hair and dragged her back to the house. Guerra assaulted her for over an hour, beating her in the head with a pistol as well as metal bar.
Guerra ultimately apologized to the victim, but kept her in his home for approximately 5 days after the assault. Her mother eventually went to the home and found her daughter, bruised and battered. The victim suffered serious injuries including four fractured bones in her back, severe facial bruising, as well as multiple contusions and abrasions all over her body.
The investigation in this case was conducted by the Gila River Police Department. The prosecution was handled by Sharon Sexton, Assistant U.S. Attorney, District of Arizona, Phoenix, Ariz.
