Sydney, Australia, 17 May 2009 – Baker & McKenzie has advised Origin Energy in its acquisition of Wind Power Pty Ltd. Wind Power is one of Australia’s leading wind farm development companies and is the owner of a portfolio of high-quality wind farm development sites in Victoria. The acquisition significantly increases Origin’s wind development portfolio.
The value of the acquisition remains confidential.
The cross-disciplinary team comprised lawyers from Baker & McKenzie’s Sydney office, including Climate Change and Environmental Markets partner Andrew Beatty and senior associate Chris Hughes from the Corporate/Major Projects Group.
Commenting on the transaction, Andrew Beatty said, “This is a key deal in the sector and comes at an important time in the development of Australia’s response to the challenge of climate change. As a result of the deal, Origin has greatly increased its portfolio of renewable energy options, which will help it both to meet its obligations under the expanded National Renewable Energy Target and satisfy increasing consumer demand for green power.
“We were proud to be involved in this deal. Working together, across practices, to deliver a great result for Origin helps us to build on our own reputation as a market leader in the area.”
