Baker & McKenzie Dominates Environmental Finance and Carbon Finance Market Survey – See Legal Jobs & LawFuel.co.nz

Chicago, December 24, 2008 – LawFuel – Legal Announcements – Baker & McKenzie has been voted Best Law Firm of the Year in three of five categories in Environmental Finance and Carbon Finance’s market survey of fast-growing environmental markets. The annual survey, closely watched by leading participants of the carbon, U.S. emissions, weather risk management and renewable energy certificate markets, appears in the December-January issue of both publications.

Baker & McKenzie received the best law firm placings for Kyoto Project Credits; GHG Emissions Voluntary Markets and Australasian Markets. The Firm was named runner-up for best law firm in the other two categories: North American Mandatory Markets and EU Emissions Trading Scheme.

More than 1,600 votes were received in the market survey from readers of the two publications and those active in environmental trading. Voters were asked to vote on the basis of: efficiency and speed of transaction; reliability; innovation; quality of information and service provided and influence on the market, not just the volume of transactions handled.

“We would like to thank our clients for their ongoing support and Environmental Finance and Carbon Finance for the recognition,” said Martijn Wilder, Partner and Chair of Baker & McKenzie’s Global Climate Change, Clean Energy and Emissions Trading Practice. “For more than 10 years, Baker & McKenzie’s global team of dedicated climate change lawyers have not only been market leaders but market makers – playing a lead role in the development of carbon markets, climate law and policy and acting as an adviser of choice on carbon projects when very few firms saw potential in this emerging area of law. We will continue to leverage our distinct capabilities in this area to assist clients’ emerging needs in this growing market.”

In Environmental Finance’s 2005 and 2006 market survey, Baker & McKenzie received a number of best law firm placings, including for EU Emissions Trading and Kyoto Project Credits.
