BALTIMORE – January 22, 2007 LAWFUEL – US Law & Business News – Ober|Kaler announced that Jervis S. Finney, a former U.S. Attorney for Maryland and legal advisor to former Governor Robert Ehrlich, is rejoining the firm as Of Counsel in Baltimore.
A member of Ober|Kaler from 1958 to 2003, Mr. Finney left the firm after being tapped by former Governor Ehrlich to serve on the Governor’s staff as Chief Counsel and Criminal Justice Advisor.
Mr. Finney led many initiatives during his tenure as Chief Counsel including the selection of nearly 75 new judges in Maryland, securing a stopover in Baltimore for the prestigious Volvo Ocean Race in Baltimore, and establishing the National Sailing Hall of Fame in Annapolis. Mr. Finney will resume his litigation and government relations practice at Ober|Kaler.

One of Maryland’s most respected trial lawyers and dedicated civic leaders, Mr. Finney served as a member of the Baltimore County Council from 1962 to 1966 before being elected as Maryland State Senator in 1967. In 1975, then-President Gerald Ford appointed Mr. Finney U.S. Attorney for Maryland. His term was dominated by the political corruption trial of former Governor Marvin Mandel.
Devoting his career to raising the ethical standards of the legal profession and improving the administration of justice, Mr. Finney served on the Maryland State Ethics Commission (1979 to 1983) and in 1998, was asked to serve as Special Independent Counsel to the Joint Legislative Ethics Committee regarding the allegations against State Senator Larry Young.
Mr. Finney, a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, is the recipient of numerous awards including the Maryland Bar Foundation’s Professional Legal Excellence Award for the Advancement of Public Service Responsibilities.
After graduating from Princeton University (A.B., cum laude, 1953), Mr. Finney served in the U.S. Army Paratroops, 11th Airborne Division. He earned his LL.B. at Harvard University School of Law (1958).
