Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione Wins MCCA’s 2009 Thomas L. Sager Diversity Award

CHICAGO (LAWFUEL) – Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione has been named the 2009 winner of the Minority Corporate Counsel Association’s (MCCA) Thomas L. Sager Award for the Midwest Region. The Sager Award honors law firms that have demonstrated sustained commitment to creating a more inclusive legal profession and working environment.

This award was named in honor of Thomas L. Sager, Senior Vice President and General Counsel of DuPont, who has long championed the cause of diversity in the legal profession. The award gives national recognition to the firm’s efforts in recruitment, retention and mentoring. The award also highlights the firm’s innovative practices and collaborative efforts with community and bar associations to increase diversity within the firm.

Brinks, one of the largest intellectual property law firms in the United States, has had a long-standing commitment to diversity. “This award is the result of an ongoing team effort at Brinks and we are proud to receive it,” said Cynthia Homan, diversity shareholder at the firm. “It recognizes our achievements to date and encourages us in our efforts moving forward.”

Brinks will be honored at the MCCA Diversity Dinner at the Chicago Downtown Marriott, which will be held on March 18, 2009. Before the evening program, from 4:00 p.m. until 5:15 p.m., MCCA will present its Diversity Dialogue, a panel discussion on the diversity best practices of the award winners. The Diversity Dialogue is part of a professional development series offered by MCCA to provide information about award-winning diversity initiatives in place at various law firms throughout the country. The Diversity Dialogue also provides practical how-to advice that attendees can take back to their respective firms and legal departments.

The MCCA was founded in 1997 to advocate for the expanded hiring, retention and promotion of minority attorneys in corporate law departments and the law firms that serve them. MCCA accomplishes its mission through the collection and dissemination of information about diversity in the legal profession. For additional information on MCCA, please visit www.mcca.com.
