Charles Berman and Timothy Kalas Join Edwards Wildman As Partners In New Jersey

September 10, 2012 (Madison, NJ) – LawFuel.com American Law News – The law firm of Edwards Wildman Palmer LLP is pleased to announce that Charles R. Berman, who has more than three decades of experience in commercial lending, regulatory and corporate work, including mergers and acquisitions, and Timothy A. Kalas, whose practice focuses on all aspects of commercial lending and transactional real estate, have joined the firm as partners in its Business Law Department. The new partners will base their practice in the firm’s growing office in Madison, New Jersey.

Berman advises financial institutions, publicly and privately owned business organizations, and individuals on the transmission of wealth and business-succession issues. He steers banking clients through the purchase and sale of state and national chartered banks, capital raises, and the formation of banks, bank holding companies and trust companies. Berman comes to Edwards Wildman from the New Jersey office of Greenberg Traurig, where he was very active in loan transactions as well as loan restructurings, workouts, and foreclosures.

Kalas represents lenders in an array of real estate and asset-based finance transactions, including commercial fee and leasehold mortgages, revolving credit and term loan facilities, construction and development financing transactions, syndicated and participated credits, government-guaranteed loans, and letters of credit. He has performed extensive work in loan restructurings, workouts and foreclosures, and he has represented clients in the purchase and sale of businesses and commercial properties. Kalas also comes to the firm from the New Jersey office of Greenberg Traurig.

Berman earned his undergraduate degree from Columbia University and his law degree from the New York University School of Law, where he was a member of the Law Review. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey, New York and the District of Columbia.

Kalas earned his undergraduate degree summa cum laude from Fordham University, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and his law degree from Fordham University School of Law. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
