(LAWFUEL) – Commissioner Keelty has congratulated Deputy Commissioner John Lawler following the Government’s announcement today of his appointment as Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Crime Commission. “John’s appointment is recognition of his significant contribution to Australian and international law enforcement,” Commissioner Keelty said. “Although a major loss to the AFP, we are fortunate with this appointment that John’s experience and abilities are not lost to the Australian community. “His reputation has been built over many years including his long-standing membership of the National Counter-Terrorism Committee where has he has worked closely with senior representatives of the AFP’s state, territory and Commonwealth partners.
“His new role will be challenging however John’s experience in working with all the agencies concerned underlines his selection. I look forward to continuing our friendship and professional association in my capacity as Commissioner and as Chair of the ACC Board.”
Deputy Commissioner Lawler leaves the AFP with more than 28 years of local, national and international law enforcement experience, culminating in his current role as Deputy Commissioner National Security with responsibility for the AFP’s Aviation Security, Counter Terrorism, Intelligence and Protective Security activities.
Commissioner Keelty has also congratulated the current and inaugural ACC
CEO Mr Alastair Milroy. Alastair deserves credit for his leadership over the past six years since its inception. The formation of the ACC was a pivotal moment in Australian law enforcement and Alastair has done an excellent job in these formative years. “Alastair’s departure early next year will be with my best wishes and those of the Board.”
