DENVER – LawFuel – Legal News – Troy Eid, United States Attorney for the District of Colorado, and Richard C. Powers, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Denver Office, announced that STAN TARAN FORD, age 36, of Denver, Colorado, was sentenced today by US District Court Judge Robert E. Blackburn to serve 12 months and 1 day in federal prison for selling a machine gun. FORD, a former Denver Firefighter who is free on bond, was ordered to report to a facility designated by the US Bureau of Prison on a date to be determined later by the court.
FORD was charged by Criminal Complaint on November 21, 2005. He was subsequently indicted by a federal grand jury in Denver on December 19, 2005. He was found guilty of selling a machine gun following a 10 day jury trial on June 6, 2006. He was acquitted of other charges.
According to the facts presented during the trial, FORD knowingly and unlawfully possessed and transferred an Olympic Arms, Mini-16 machine gun. FORD was arrested immediately after the sale.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
FORD was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Joseph Mackey and Robert Brown.
