Cologne – LAWFUEL.com – DLA Piper is pleased to announce the appointment of leading German administrative law expert, Dr Ludger Giesberts, who joins its Litigation and Regulatory practice in Cologne. Ludger, who was formerly a partner at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, joins the Cologne office with a team of two associates – Dr Thilo Streit LLM and Guido Kleve. He will take on a senior role in the practice group, developing it in Germany and Europe.
Ludger has over 16 years’ experience in administrative law and is considered to be one of Germany’s leading lawyers this field. His main areas of practice include environmental, technical, building, planning and aviation law. In addition he advises on infrastructure and PPP, financing and privatisation matters under German and EU law, and product compliance. Ludger frequently acts for major national and international companies in the infrastructure, transport, waste, utilities and healthcare sectors. He also advises local, regional and Federal authorities, as well as state-owned businesses. Ludger represents several German airports (e.g. Berlin, Düsseldorf) and is advising on the financing of the new Berlin-Schönefeld airport. Acting before the European Court of Justice and the European Commission he represented Daimler AG as well as public sector institutions.

The practice now has 16 lawyers in Germany, including six partners who advise on a range of issues including administrative and public law, arbitration, compliance, German and EU competition, corporate defence, insolvency and restructurings, insurance and reinsurance, litigation, planning and environmental law, procurement, and tax.
Ludger, 47, studied in Bonn and Trier. He holds a Doctor of Law degree from the University of Trier. Ludger also has a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Administrative Sciences of Speyer, in Germany, and a master’s in public international law from the London School of Economics. He is a guest lecturer on environmental law & regulatory at the University of Cologne.
