LawFuel.com – Asia Law Firm News – The law firm of Edwards Wildman Palmer LLP is pleased to announce that its associated Hong Kong office, Lister Lo Lui & Choy, has entered into a strategic alliance with Eagle IP Ltd., a top-ranked patent and trademark agency in Hong Kong.
Under the terms of the agreement, which was signed on August 24, 2012, Edwards Wildman will collaborate with Eagle IP to further develop a sophisticated international patent and IP-focused practice serving international companies doing business in the Asia Pacific region and Greater China companies needing worldwide IP counseling.
The alliance offers compelling advantages to both parties. Edwards Wildman obtains top-tier expertise in PRC-related IP matters such as PRC-style patent drafting, IP enforcement, IP protection, and IP-related strategies. In addition, Edwards Wildman can now draft and prosecute patent applications in Chinese and offer unmatched PRC patent practice expertise. At the same time, Eagle IP will be able to offer its clients the international legal and advisory capabilities of Edwards Wildman and generally deliver a broader range of services to its clients than it previously could. Eagle IP’s new alliance will also permit it to significantly expand its Mainland China patent consulting practice.
“With this alliance, we are now in a strong position to offer a dynamic component to a wide range of clients with intellectual property interests in Hong Kong and China,” said John Lo, the partner in charge of Edwards Wildman’s associated office in Hong Kong. “It also will allow us to pursue new engagements for growing companies in the venture capital / private equity markets, as well as established and listed companies with worldwide IP needs, while providing an instant boost to our patent-practice capability in China. We are pleased to enter into this relationship with Eagle IP.”
“We are delighted with this alliance,” added Dr. Jacqueline Lui, Eagle IP’s managing director. “Our clients are growing their businesses and need effective legal advice. As an IP agency, we are not equipped to give legal advice. With this alliance, our clients will now have access to topnotch international legal services as they expand.”
Formed in 2005, Eagle IP has 11 patent agents practicing in two groups. Its Life Sciences group has six agents and is headed by Dr. Jacqueline Lui, a registered U.S. patent agent. The Engineering Group has five agents and is headed by Dr. Ho Chung Lui, also a registered U.S. patent agent. Eagle was chosen as one of 10 “Firms To Watch” by Asian Legal Business in its 2012 IP rankings. Eagle was also chosen as the 2011 “Patent Firm of the Year” in Hong Kong by Corporate International and 2011 Hong Kong Intellectual Property Law Firm of the Year by Lawyer Monthly.
