(Oct. 12, 2006, New York) – LAWFUEL – Law News, Law Jobs – Reed Smith LLP, a top-25 international law firm, today announced the addition of three partners to its expanding New York City office. Effective immediately, James Tandler, Patrick de Carbuccia and Michael Pollack will be resident in the firm’s New York office.
Mr. Tandler, joins its Tax Group; Mr. de Carbuccia joins its Corporate & Securities Group; and Mr. Pollack joins the firm’s growing New York City Real Estate Practice.
“Having James, Patrick and Michael on board furthers our strategy to grow a comprehensive New York corporate practice by attracting strong laterals. These three clearly have the background and experience to handle sophisticated real estate transactions, securities matters or taxation issues that our clients require,” said David Grimes, managing partner of Reed Smith’s New York office. “Our New York transactional practice is growing rapidly and we are pleased to have the additional capacity on the ground in New York.”
Reed Smith’s New York office has seen exponential growth with the addition of 33 attorneys since January 2005 in its Corporate & Securities, Financial Services, Real Estate, Product Liability, IP, Labor & Employment, and Tax practice groups.
Mr. Tandler comes to Reed Smith from Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP in New York. He practices broadly in the federal income tax area, with strong experience in corporate merger and acquisition transactions.
A 1992 graduate of the New England School of Law, Mr. Tandler received an LL.M. in Taxation from the New York University School of Law in 1993. He is admitted to practice in New York and Massachusetts.
Mr. Tandler has handled many high-level corporate and partnership reorganization and acquisition transactions, including serving as a lead tax attorney involved with structuring and implementing a number of tax-free spin-off transactions for numerous clients.
“I look forward to providing tax practice support for Reed Smith’s expanding corporate and private equity practices,” Mr. Tandler said. “I also see considerable opportunity to contribute firmwide to Reed Smith’s ability to obtain additional sophisticated corporate work.”
Mr. de Carbuccia joins Reed Smith from Wilkie Farr & Gallagher LLP. Prior to that, he was with Cleary Gottlieb in New York and Paris, and Moquet, Borde & Associés (now Paul Hastings) in Paris, both for two years. His practice includes private equity investments, M&A, general corporate transactions and restructurings.
Mr. de Carbuccia earned a double Masters in business and tax law from the University of Paris. He received an LL.M. from Columbia University in 1998. A citizen of both the United States and France, he has previously worked as a lawyer in Paris and has relationships with the Reed Smith and Richards Butler offices abroad.

Private equity funds and M&A clients, in financial services and pharmaceuticals, for example, seek European transactional expertise, and I am pleased to add my capabilities in meeting our clients’ needs.”
Mr. Pollack was formerly a partner and head of the U.S. Real Estate Practice at Withers Bergman and, prior to that, was a partner at Wolf Block in New York. Based in New York his entire career, he is a member of the Bars of New York and Massachusetts. A 1983 graduate of Boston University School of Law, Mr. Pollack has long represented a number of significant New York real estate developers.
