Located within Land Information New Zealand (LINZ), the OIO is a team of lawyers and paralegals who work with the Overseas Investment Act 2005 to make recommendations about who gets to own or control more than 25 percent of certain types of New Zealand land, significant business assets and fishing quota.

The OIO provides information and recommendations to senior Government Ministers about overseas investment applications. It also has close working relationships with a variety of other government agencies.
