DALLAS (LAWFUEL) – – Beverly Godbey, a partner in the Dallas office of Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP, has been elected as a member of the prestigious American Law Institute.
Ms. Godbey, a prominent litigator and a member of Gardere’s trial practice group, has been practicing law for more than 25 years and is best known for her expertise in insurance litigation. In addition to her legal work, she is also committed to public service and has served on multiple legal and non-legal boards.
“Being elected to the American Law Institute is an incredible honor, and Beverly is one of only 63 people to make it through their rigorous membership process this time around,” says Gardere’s Managing Partner Steve Good. “Having worked with her for many years, I can attest that there is nobody more qualified and deserving of this honor than Beverly.”
The ALI, which has roughly 4,000 members, works to clarify, modernize and otherwise improve the law through the drafting of model statutes and principles of law. Its work has been enormously influential in the courts and legislatures, both in the United States and around the world.
“I am both humbled and thrilled by my election to ALI,” Ms. Godbey says. “Its members have a chance to influence the development of the law around the world, particularly in emerging nations. Giving back to my community has always been a priority of mine. This just makes my definition of ‘community’ a little broader.”
Ms. Godbey’s trial practice emphasizes tort litigation, including ERISA litigation, personal injury, products liability, deceptive trade practices, insurance, and negligence cases. She has tried more than forty lawsuits, winning cases for clients in a variety of industries.
