Veteran Litigator Brooks Brown Spearheads Launch of Firm?s Southern California Pro Bono Program
LOS ANGELES, Calif., April 3, 2008 LAWFUEL – Legal Announcement – Goodwin Procter LLP, one of the nation?s leading law firms, today announced the kick-off of its Southern California Pro Bono Program under the leadership of veteran litigator, Brooks R. Brown.
As a newly named member of Goodwin Procter?s Pro Bono Committee, Brown will oversee the firm?s public-spirited efforts in the Los Angeles and San Diego offices as well as developing and expanding pro bono partnerships in the community.
The firm?s attorneys, from the most junior to the most senior, will be leading the way in this inaugural effort to carry over Goodwin Procter?s philanthropic spirit to the West Coast.
After over 11 years of experience with Goodwin Procter in its Boston office, Brown relocated to Southern California in late 2007 as the firm?s first litigation partner to practice from its Los Angeles offices. In addition to his responsibilities to the Pro Bono Program, Brown will continue his practice specializing in general civil litigation, with a particular emphasis on the defense of financial institutions in consumer financial services class action suits. “At the core of Goodwin Procter’s Pro Bono Program is a genuine drive and dedication to help those in need,” said Brown, “I am looking forward to helping our young attorneys focus that energy on helping those unable to afford legal assistance. These experiences will also help shape and enhance their own legal careers as they emerge as leaders in the community.”

The Pro Bono Institute issues an annual challenge to devote at least three percent of total billable hours to pro bono work. In 2007, Goodwin Procter met the challenge by dedicating over 43,000 hours to 440 pro bono client matters firm wide.
“Our lawyers exhibit a real excitement, even passion, for getting involved on a regular basis in pro bono assignments,” says Pisa. The Southern California team has partnered with several venerable Los Angeles institutions on their first assignments and will be providing legal assistance on matters including Holocaust reparations, asylum cases, and child advocacy issues.
