SACRAMENTO, Calif. (LAWFUEL) – Houston-based litigation firm Hicks Thomas LLP is pleased to announce the opening of its new office in Sacramento, Calif. This marks the firm’s first expansion outside Texas.
“Increasingly, our clients are calling on us for help with environmental and toxic tort litigation in California,” says John B. Thomas, co-founder of the firm. “This new office responds to those demands and allows us to expand our representation of clients on the West Coast.”
Joining the firm to lead the new Sacramento office is attorney Eric Grant, whose practice focuses on constitutional and complex litigation, principally at the appellate level. Mr. Grant is Certified by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization, a designation achieved by less than 3 percent of the 156,000 practicing attorneys in the state. He is one of only 250 or so California attorneys to become a Certified Specialist in Appellate Law.
“We have worked on cases with Eric for a number of years, and it was only natural to include him in our California expansion,” says firm co-founder Taylor M. Hicks, Jr. “He brings a whole new dimension to our practice, and his expertise and experience will be a tremendous benefit to our clients.”
Mr. Grant earned his law degree from Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley. After law school, he served as a law clerk to Judge Edith H. Jones of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in Houston, and later joined the Office of Legal Counsel of the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C.
After leaving government service, Mr. Grant practiced for several years at a large Washington, D.C., firm, where he handled complex litigation in the federal appellate courts. He interrupted his practice to serve as law clerk to both Retired Chief Justice Warren E. Burger and Associate Justice Clarence Thomas during the U.S. Supreme Court’s October 1994 Term. Most recently, Mr. Grant maintained a private practice in Sacramento.
