Foodstuffs General Counsel – Julian Benefield

As General Counsel at Foodstuffs, Julian Benefield has had to deal with a number of public and regulatory issues in the midst of a cost-of-living crisis where his employer has attracted adverse publicity and opprobrium.
Working for the company that owns Pan’nSave and New World is perhaps appropriate for a man who once worked the checkout at Pan’nSave Taupo while at school and before studying law and commerce at the University of Canterbury.
Following experience with law firms and working in Australia and the United Kingdom, he joined Foodstuffs and has become General Counsel
recognised for outstanding achievement and contribution, including being named 2020 In-House Lawyer of the Year, and was included in the 2021 List of NZ’s Most Influential Lawyers and the 2019-2020 NZ Lawyers’ In-House Leaders List.
