Labor Law Appontments For Greenberg Traurig – Global Human Capital Solutions Group Formed

NEW YORK– LAWFUEL – Law Firm Newswire –The international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP announced today it has enhanced its Labor and Employment Practice with the addition of Jonathan L. Sulds and Jonathan L. Israel in New York.

In addition to his senior status in the Labor and Employment department, Sulds will co-chair the newly formed Global Human Capital Solutions Group, a collaborative, cross-departmental initiative among four practices: Labor and Employment, Benefits and Compensation, Immigration and Tax. Sulds will work closely with group co-chairs Jeffrey Mamorsky and Laura Reiff in leading the firm’s response to the urgent needs of multi-national clients with a single source solution to their human capital needs related to the recruitment, protection, management and reward of their global work force, addressing everything from labor and employment and executive compensation issues to employee benefits, tax and immigration matters.

Sulds represents corporate America in every aspect of their engagement, protection, management and reward of workforce resources. He is experienced in the areas of collective bargaining and traditional labor relations; ERISA litigation; wage and hour matters; discrimination complaints; restrictive covenant, duty of loyalty and trade secret litigation; SOX and whistleblower matters; as well as all labor and employment aspects of corporate transactions.

Sulds has been involved in significant labor matters throughout his more than 30-year legal career. A few highlights include the negotiation of the project labor agreement for the new stadium of one of America’s most famous sports franchises and serving as lead counsel for a leading national package delivery company in two nationwide wage and hour class and collective actions that would have challenged the exempt status of nearly every managerial position at the company.

Israel advises clients on a wide variety of traditional labor and general employment matters, both in the U.S. and internationally, and in diverse industries, including professional sports, entertainment, media, financial services, hedge fund and private equity funds, transportation and retail. In addition to his experience in private practice, Israel previously was assistant general counsel at the National Basketball Association, where he served as in-house counsel to the NBA and its affiliated entities and teams on labor and employment, litigation and general corporate matters.

“I am thrilled to become a part of GT’s Labor and Employment Practice, I don’t know any other platform which unites such world class labor relations, employment counseling and litigation, employee benefits, tax, executive compensation and immigration solutions for the 21st century employer and delivers them throughout its offices around the world. I am privileged to join GT,” said Jonathan Sulds.

“It is rare indeed that a firm has the opportunity to bring on board two individuals of the quality, character and reputation of Jon Sulds and Jon Israel,” said Richard A. Rosenbaum, Greenberg Traurig’s President. “In addition to the substance they will add to our growing practice, including Sulds’ leadership in kicking off the exciting and timely Human Capital Solutions Group, they are both the kind of true team players who will clearly fit the culture of respect, integrity and collaboration that defines Greenberg Traurig — while critical to us, these traits are increasingly rare in our profession.”

Sulds and Israel join shareholders Jerrold F. Goldberg and Eric B. Sigda in the New York Labor and Employment Practice, part of the firm’s 110-lawyer national practice group.

Sulds graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1974 where he was Articles Editor for the Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review. He earned his B.A. magna cum laude and his M.A., with distinction, from Colgate University in 1971; where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and named as both a Danforth Graduate Fellow and a Herbert Lehman Fellow.

Israel earned his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1993 and his B.A., cum laude, from Harvard University in 1987. After graduating from law school, he clerked for the Honorable Alfred M. Wolin of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
