Washington, D.C., September 3, 2008 (LAWFUEL) – On the eve of his historic visit with President Bush in the White House last week, President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete of Tanzania led a forum on investing in Tanzania and East Africa. The event, hosted by Baker & McKenzie LLP, was attended by a number of government officials from Tanzania and the United States, along with representatives of several multinational companies and investors.
At the event, President Kikwete discussed business and investment opportunities in Tanzania, the overall health and stability of the country and its growing importance in the region. This region has attracted growing interest for its oil and mineral resources, power and infrastructure opportunities, including rail and port systems.
Baker & McKenzie’s John Conroy, Chairman of the Firm’s Executive Committee, said: “It was a tremendous honor for us to host President Kikwete, his delegation and other dignitaries at this important forum, which put a spotlight on the investment potential of East Africa in general, and Tanzania, in particular. We anticipate growing investment in this region as more multinational companies come to understand its many opportunities and advantages.”
