New York and Washington, D.C. – April 5, 2010 – Debevoise & Plimpton LLP today announced the further expansion of its Financial Institutions Group with the addition of David A. Luigs as counsel of the firm, resident in the Washington, D.C. office.
Mr. Luigs’s practice focuses on banking matters. He advises banks, broker-dealers, and other financial institutions on a wide range of regulatory, enforcement, and transactional matters. He will join Debevoise’s Financial Institutions Group, which was augmented in July 2009 with the addition of Gregory J. Lyons, Co-Chair for the Americas of the Financial Institutions Group, and Satish M. Kini, Co-Chair of the Banking Group.
Mr. Kini said: “David will add great depth to our recently expanded banking practice and long-standing Financial Institutions Group. With many years’ experience advising on compliance issues, complex transactions and regulatory matters, David will bring further capabilities to the firm’s broad range of services for financial institutions. Mr. Luigs was formerly counsel in the Washington, D.C. office of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP, where he was a member of the Securities and Regulatory and Government Affairs Departments, and a member of the firm’s Financial Institutions Practice Group. He worked regularly with financial institutions clients in mergers and acquisitions and related regulatory applications, as well as assisted financial institutions in all aspects of their relationships with federal and state regulators. Mr. Luigs also counseled mortgage industry clients, including new entrants, on a wide variety of legal issues regulating the mortgage industry. He received his J.D., magna cum laude, Order of the Coif, from the University of Michigan Law School (1995), where he was Associate and Notes Editor of the Michigan Law Review, and his B.A. from the College of William and Mary (1988).
