LAWFUEL – The Law Firm Newswire – Paul, Weiss represented a class of songwriters and music publishers in a $130 million settlement with German media company Bertelsmann AG and certain of its U.S. affiliates. The settlement — which has been widely reported in the press, including the front page of yesterday’s Financial Times — follows more than four years of litigation involving Bertelsmann’s investment in Napster, the music “file sharing” service, which was shut down in July 2001 as a result of copyright infringement litigation in which the firm represented a similar class of plaintiffs.
The settlement, which was filed in the Northern District of California on Friday, is subject to court approval.
