Award recognizes company’s dedication to the public safety community with its line of Toughbook® computing solutions

After the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, one of the biggest challenges was documenting the condition of damaged structures throughout the New Orleans area and the FEMA paperwork was overwhelming for the small code-enforcement staff. Accela, a land management and public safety software company, developed an automated process that could help, but it needed field computers to make it happen in the toughest of conditions. “Panasonic provided a lot of Toughbook computers and support with no strings attached. I can’t say enough about the way they helped with this effort,” said Richard Morrey, Accela’s chief technology officer. Together, Accela and Panasonic Computer Solutions Company helped the staff document the conditions of more than 125,000 structures in a few weeks, a task that was originally estimated to take several months.
