LAWFUEL – Legal Newswire – I believe that last week’s adoption by Auckland practitioners of the ‘One Society Plan’ by five to one (1406 votes for and 279 votes against) represents a landmark moment in the history of both Auckland and New Zealand lawyers. I believe that the right decision has been made for all of us.

I do want to thank all of those who came to the forums, took part in the various discussions, contributed to the debate, and took the time to consider the arguments both for and against the proposal, and voted.

All parties involved had the best interests of Auckland and New Zealand lawyers in mind as they have made their contributions to that decision. We now have a clear direction to go in and it is important that we all now travel in that direction to ensure that the new national structure is worked by and for the best interests of Auckland and New Zealand practitioners.

There is a lot of work to be done by an already hard working Council towards the implementation of the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006 and the changes that act makes to all law society functions. I look forward to your ongoing support as we continue to go through that process.
